Adult adoption There are several reasons why an individual would adopt an adult

1. To establish a solid relationship

2. To provide inheritance especially if the adopter is single and has a meaningful relationship with the adult adoptee.

3. Care for a person of diminished capacity

4. The cost to file Court documents is less expensive for an Adult Adoption

5.  Looking to sponsor a relative such as your Niece or Nephew

6.  There is no preparation course requirement

Requirement includes that the adoptee must be 18 years old and older in the state of Florida.   The birth parents are not involved in the process.   However, the adoptee must consent to the adoption.    All documents for adoption should be filed with the Court in the County where the adopter and adoptee lives.  The state of Florida does not have a age limit for adult adoption, so know your state laws.  There are residence status requirement.  For example, establishing residence based on a specific time such as 6 months for other reasons in some cases.
